Almost ten years ago, my son introduced me to baseball. (You can read a bit more about that in a book review I did for The Dallas Morning News.)

At about the same time, we were planning a trip across the country for the tenth anniversary of The First Line. We were going to visit some of our stores and do some readings. That's when my son suggested we hit some baseball games along the way. One thing led to another, and what started as a one-summer event has become a yearly pilgrimage to bookstores and stadiums large, small, and imaginary.

In 2011, my two favorite bookstores put out a call for old and new zinesters to make at least one more zine. With the help of my son, I put together the first inning of Bookstores and Baseball, a perzine about our travels that summer. We're now on our ninth inning of Bookstores and Baseball.
